Before specialising, Dr Barva gained experience as a dental officer at Westmead Hospital in NSW, working across paediatric, periodontal, and special needs departments. She also served regional communities as a locum dentist in South Australia’s Riverland. Committed to staying at the forefront of orthodontic innovation, Dr Barva regularly attends national and European conferences, developing her own indirect bonding technique (a more precise and comfortable method of bracket placement, improving accuracy and reducing chair time).
Dr Barva is the former Chairperson of the Australian Society of Orthodontists (ASO) and Convenor for the ASO Conference held in Adelaide in 2024. She has contributed to the development of the Society’s strategic plans and has been recognised for her commitment to advancing orthodontic practice in Australia. She previously coordinated the Auxiliary Programme for the ASO’s 2014 Congress, has taught postgraduate students in the Orthodontic Master’s Program for five years, and has presented clinical cases at both local and international conferences. She is also the South Australian liaison officer for Give A Smile, reflecting her dedication to improving access to quality care.
Outside the clinic, Melinda enjoys arts and crafts, cooking, long walks on the beach with her dog, and spending quality time with her family.
